Come out of Car Hire Car Park onto Island that is opposite a huge shopping mall called “AUCHAN” at this Island turn left. (At lights go right) You will need to follow signs for the Auto Strada A14 BARI (BLUE SIGNS I THINK)you will go along a long road through a suburb called Sambuceto but just follow all signs for A14 BARI.
NB: Bari is South (Sud), you need to travel South but not as far as Bari.
The A14 will also sign Bologna, this is the north direction – do not go north.
At the toll counters, go into lane where the picture above shows coins, this is the cash option.
Once you get onto the A14, simply travel south in direction of Bari (Lots of tunnels) past Ortona, past Vasto Nord after which you should see signs for Vasto Sud and the SS650 for “ISERNIA”
You need to exit onto the ISERNIA SS650 Road. Once on the SS650 travel along here for about 20 mins. Eventually you will go under quite a long tunnel after the tunnel you will see a sign for Palmoli and Carunchio”, exit here. (see pic 1)
Follow this road up and where the road forks with one straight ahead and one to left, (see pic 2) take the left road, continue to follow signs for Carunchio (Do not head for Palmoli). You will see a derelict house, on the hill infront of you as you come up quite a steep hill, at this point the road bears to the right quite sharp then a sharp left to bring you to a T -Junction. At the T-Junction turn left, follow road, eventually as you come around the hills you will see “CARUNCHIO” (see pic 3) on your right set onto the hillside.
1 Exit off SS650 from Pescara
2 - Follow Road to Left Here. (Do not go straight on)
2 - Left as sign posted.

3 View as you a
Getting to the house once in Carunchio
Drive into the village past the petrol station and bar on your left, as you approach the centre of the village you can either go the gradual incline route by following the road around that winds upwards or, you can turn right at the green where the statue is, next to the re-cycle bins (To your right) and take the VERY steep hill up where you’ll need to do a hill stop and then turn right at the top of the hill.
As you then follow the road winding upwards you will eventually come to a supermarket on your right (Shuttered up on a Sunday), 200 yards past that shop you will come into the Piazza (Square), drive across the square but drive towards the left far corner, as you approach there are 2 streets, one to right , one to left. The left street is Via Foresta, it’s a tiny street, so be careful passing the parked cars. You will get by, just take your time. You go past a pull in point (right) where they have some bins, after which you will pass a steep concrete slope that veers off and up to the right (A car pull in), if you travel down just a few more yards you will come to a set of steps on your right that go up the side of some green painted garage doors, these steps take you up to the house.
You can unload your luggage here. If you walk up the steps, you go past Giovina’s garden gate (Left) and her front garden. At the top of the steps the house is on your left with a letter box and a number 7 (left of door) above the letter box. Brown Double Doors go into Kitchen.
Electric can be switched on at consumer unit directly next to the kitchen door on your right.
Park the car further down the road on the left alongside the vegetable gardens.
